It is day thirteen of being laid up and nine days since a blood clot was found behind my knee. After yestedays doctor appointment with the wonderful Shari Sanders, I learned that I actually had two blood clots. That's right... two. Perhaps they didn't mention it last week because they saw the sheer panic in my eyes with just the mention of one. The second blood clot was apparently older and believed to be from the original injury. It is nothing to worry about as it seemed to open up and basically disintegrated into the wall of a vein leaving scar tissue. This of course makes perfect sense and could explain the new visible vein on my upper quad. Dr. Sanders reminded me that when blood clots happen, a person's body discovers new ways to get around the clot and new veins develop...kind of like traffic. She also mentioned that the fact that I exercised routinely and am younger probably had something to do with the first clot dissolving on its own.
But I'm 31 now and I guess I need a little bit of help from a few needles to the stomach:-)
As for this newest and most dangerous clot, it's still too early to tell but the good news is that the daily blood draws to monitor my blood level have discontinued. No more daily lab visits for me.
All I know is, when I am finally able to bare weight on my left leg, and the surgery to repair my ACL is done...I'll find myself a movable conveyor belt and I'm going to strut my stuff like this...
