Ya know, I have a ton of time on my hands. As I lay here with my leg propped, I found this amazing video featuring footage from the highly successful, "Brokeback Mountain." While I haven't said a lot about "Brokeback..." via "I'm No Peach" (I figured everyone else was doing it), please consider this video to be the one video that has been the catalyst for some upcoming thoughts. The current state of our country includes a behavior that seems to threaten the existence of love, in whatever form it may come in. I can't determine if there is actually a rise in hate crimes based on sexual orientation or if due to the latest technology which includes blogging, we are just hearing about them more. Whatever the case, I'm going to say what I've said so many times before. While my message applies to my fellow homo's who sit on the fence on issues such as these...my straight alliances can also learn a thing or two as well....
We live in a time where the word "freedom" is being tossed about by individuals who have never experienced the deeper pain of isolation, fear, and other unfortunate societal scars. Freedom is choice, and when you limit the choices of others, you essentially are killing their freedom. Whether you want to be married or not, love is love...no matter what the form. Too often I hear gay men in various forms (media stereotypes, sluts at the bar, gay socialites...oh and the "straight-acting") say they don't need to be married. That's fine, but if we all removed ourselves from our "ME" syndrome, we might realize there are others in our segment of society who do want the choice. With the exception of "love," everything in our society is so segmented, divided. For every one thing, there is always another one thing to choose, to believe in, or to join. But love...it's universal.
Enjoy the video to James Blunt's "Goodbye My Lover".....and remember...don't be hollow.
Bravo!
I'd do a whole Vegas marriage in a heartbeat if old GWB would stop being a Nazi about it.
